Intermap: A Futures Mapping Tool
foresight innovation | 5 member team | new york city, usa | 2021
Overview
Futures Cone is a tool used to map possible, plausible, and preposterous futures from 'now'. This project prompted the team to use the existing future cone framework and develop new models for testing futures of intersections of selected protagonists, i.e personas in a scenario of the future.
The tool developed here uses a future cone of each protagonist to map intersections with others based on their personalities, current, and future trends in the world. The positioning of the cross-sections helps visualize input in the strategic process to create intersections between them. This process can be used by organizations to:

- map futures of their users and understand where they are headed with respect to the organization's future.

- inform decision-making/strategic initiatives on if and how to mobilize the individual cones by expanding the probability of protagonist/persona preferred futures.

Framework/Process Design

This tool evolved as a result of extrapolating the methodology after applying future cones to scenarios with 5 protagonists created by the team.

The steps were as followed:

This framework can be used while:

-
discussions on strategic decisions that influence the future of users.
-
creating roadmaps towards a desired future for a product
-
