The purpose of Unbind has been to bridge the gap between education and practice. After initial years of work in conducting hands-on workshops for design students to aid in their academic journey, design for social impact became a part of the mission. In a country like India, building empathy and perspectives around diversity is an important skill for designers and social changemakers. Unbind creates learning experiences that are designed to bring positive social change, for the self, and through that, the environment around.
I worked over 3 years at Unbind, in a wide range of roles including graphic design, photography, business design, program strategy, and workshop facilitation.
Prabhaav
The program was designed to provide different observation lenses for participants to understand rural narratives. The 3 days included interaction, ideation, discussions, and reflections.
Designers engaged in conversation of the artisans at Anegundi who work with banana fiber products to understand how the craft and their lives are connected.
Rangabhoomi
Rangabhoomi, meaning playground was a pilot fellowship program started by Unbind for designers who have a drive-in their field of work but do not know the “what” and “how” in their specific area
of impact.
Unbind believed that strengthening these pillars - innovation, community, spirit, and impact, that supported designers could eventually strengthen the design ecosystem in India. 6 designers who are now successfully engaged in social innovation pathways were part of this 6 month long pilot.
Vision Sprint - Hampi Centre for Design
Unbind was approached to put together the content and design of the vision document for the Hampi Centre for Design. As an upcoming design school, the founder had several visions and ideas for the future of the school. The process of putting together this crucial document meant also understanding the thoughts and vision of the founder and supporters of the institution. A vision sprint was designed to unpack the several ideas and thoughts around this, the data gathered through the process was synthesized to draft and design the vision document.
